Countertop Fabrication Update 🛠️ We’re deep into the build on these brand-new MDF countertops, and the process is all about precision. Right now, the tops are flipped upside down with laminated edge strips glued in place. This step is crucial — it creates the thickness, strength, and stability needed before routing those crisp outside edges and cutting the sink opening in that massive L-section. Why MDF? Because it’s flat, stable, and the perfect foundation for our epoxy pours. By replacing the old bowed-out Formica with a freshly fabricated surface, we’re setting the stage for a flawless finish. These countertops will not only look incredible once the epoxy design goes down, but they’ll also give years of durability and performance. When we first walked into this Mooresville kitchen, the old Formica counters were so bowed and worn out that no amount of leveling could’ve made them epoxy-ready. Big day in Mooresville, IN 👊. The cabinet bases are complete through every stage—cleaned, filled, sanded, primed twice, and locked in with durable topcoats. But when it came to the countertops, we had to call an audible. The originals were so bowed and uneven that no epoxy system would hold properly on-site. So here’s the pivot: we’re fabricating brand new countertops in-house out of high-grade MDF panels. Why MDF? Because it gives us a perfectly flat, stable, and seamless foundation to work with—exactly what’s needed to pull off a flawless epoxy finish. Instead of pouring in the home, we’ll be doing the full epoxy process in our shop under controlled conditions, then transporting and installing the finished tops once they’ve cured. Using the Rockler Woodworking and Hardware Deluxe Drilling System, we drilled out new holes so these doors can get fitted with soft-close concealed hinges. While Brandon was drilling, Cody was on cleaning duty – scrubbing every door to remove grease and debris. While that might have been their quick fix, it’s not how we do things here.
